Your Voiceover Demo redux

by | Jun 20, 2013 | 0 comments

The voiceover demo is a big deal.  Financially and as a representation of all that you offer to a potential buyer.  It can either open or shut the door for you immediately.  It needs to be PHENOMENAL.  This means, if you are not reading your spots phenomenal before you ever step in the booth the record your demo, you’re not ready to make a demo.  I discuss the dangers of all this in this voice over demo blog from a year or two ago called How to Make a Great Voiceover Demo.  Let it be your guide, your inspiration, and your friendly warning.

With that said, there’s some great talent out there, and perhaps you are one of them and you’re ready to take that plunge.  Most importantly is having the right unbiased yet experienced perspective on whether you are ready or not.  I feel so strongly about this that I am offering you a free voiceover consult on whether you are demo-ready or not.  With that said, if you have had no voiceover training at all, or no acting experience, you are not ready regardless.    A great actor is leaps and bounds ahead of the pack because voiceover is so acting based.  If you are looking to be the “Let’s get ready to ruuuuumble…….!” guy, you might want to consider – saying it in your living room.  I think jobs like that are rare, and I would recommend looking up bios of the people that do jobs like that.  Chances are they got that job because of the job before that.  Not a lot of casting for that work…

One of my new favorite websites, besides mine, that offers sound advice on the demo, for those of you who are considering it is right here at I want to be a voice actor.com.  I really appreciate this person’s organization and insight.  So once again, before you make that demo, there’s a lot of other stuff that comes first.  Patience is a virtue.
